National Night Out

The Runnemede Police Department will be hosting National Night Out tonight, August 6th starting at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Harry Williams Community Center.

Very excited for National Night out 2019! We have a big night planned with the Runnemede Police Department, Runnemede Fire Department/EMS along with a bunch of our local business, groups, and organizations including:

Message From Runnemede Police Department

The Runnemede Police Department is highly aware of the numerous incidents involving juveniles riding their bicycles in the middle of the roadway/swerving causing a danger to themselves and the motoring public. We have seen an increase in these types of activities are doing the best we can to minimize it with active patrols and citations. We are asking that if you know of any of the youth participating in this activity to please make their parents aware of the behavior and that it is not only dangerous, but it is also illegal.

Our officers will have zero tolerance for this type of behavior and will continue to cite ALL juveniles who are observed acting inappropriately. All bicyclist are required to follow the same Title 39 Traffic Codes as a motor vehicle.

Some Summons’ include:
39:4-10 (Lights and Relfectors)
39:4-10.1 (Require Helmet-17 years old and under)
39:4-11 (Audible signal)
39:4-11.1 (Brakes)
39:4-14.2 (Single file right)
39:4-126 (Failure to Signal Turn)

As stated, we will have ZERO tolerance for this beahavior and summons will continued to be issued. We now leave it up to the parents to speak with their children about the correct beahvior.

Runnemede Police Press Release 8-25-15

August 25, 2015

On August 24th at 8:09PM Runnemede Officers were dispatched to the area of Lakeview Drive and Singley Avenue for a report of a domestic dispute. Officers met with the victim, an adult female, who reported the following: The victim along with the suspect drove to Green Acres Park, in the suspect’s car. They began to argue. The victim was physically removed from the car, beaten and dragged to Big Timber Creek by the suspect. The suspect held the victims head under water until she lost consciousness. The victim eventually was dragged back to the suspect’s car. The victim eventually managed to flee from the suspect and ran to a home and asked the resident to call 9-1-1. While police were on the scene, the suspect walked up. He was identified by the victim and was immediately arrested.
The accused is identified as:
Christian Benyard age-24
Cascade Court Sewell, NJ

Charges
Attempted Murder
Attempted kidnapping
Terroristic Threats

Christian Benyard is in the Camden County Correctional Facility, bail is set at $150,000.

 

All those charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Recent Car Burglaries Information

August 18, 2015

The Runnemede Police Department has released information this afternoon on their Facebook page pertaining to the recent car burglaries in town.

“We have been experiencing car burglaries. Most recently they occurred on the east side of town around the Sherrington Development, between 1:00am – 5:00am. Residents reported seeing a black male with long dreadlocks riding a bicycle in that area. PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK YOUR CARS AND REMOVE VALUABLES. And more importantly CALL 9-1-1 if you see someone suspicious.”

Runnemede Police Arrest Suspect For Distribution Of Narcotics

The Runnemede Police Department made an arrest on June 9, 2014 of a 34 year old male from the unit block of Singley Avenue.

According to police, the male was suspected of selling various types of narcotics in Runnemede.  Police conducted an extensive investigation and a search warrant was issued for the suspect’s residence.

According to the press release this afternoon, a large quantity of Cocaine, various types of pain killer medication and a large sum of cash was seized.

The suspect was charged with (1) count of Distribution of CDS 2nd degree, (1) count of Possession of CDS 3rd degree and (1) count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia D.P.

The suspect has been remanded to the Camden County Jail in lieu of $150,000.00 full cash bail.

All those charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Press Conference—WaWa Stabbing

Chief Paul Dailey held a press conference today at 1 p.m. regarding the stabbing that took place Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Runnemede WaWa that is located along the Black Horse Pike.

According to Chief Dailey, officers arrived at the WaWa at 10:30 a.m. to respond to a stabbing call.

A fight took place between two women in the parking lot and a knife was involved.  An 18 year old gas attendant tried to break up the fight and was stabbed in the arm.  His name is not being released at this time.

 

Runnemede Police Updates Public On Recent Burglaries

The Runnemede Police Department just released on their Facebook page some information about the recent burglaries around town.

Due to a recent rash of burglaries, the Runnemede Police Department would like to remind all residents and business owners to secure their properties the best they can prior to leaving. Keep an eye out for suspicious persons or vehicles that seem to linger in your area and report to police immediately so that we can investigate. All of the burglaries have occurred during the day. Make sure your alarm systems are activated, doors and windows are locked, and property of value cannot be seen through windows to deter would be burglars. The Runnemede Police Department is aggressively investigating these crimes to locate and apprehend any suspect(s) responsible for these crimes. Thank you for your cooperation!

Runnemede Police Arrest Copper Wire Thief

The Runnemede Police Department has released information on their Facebook page about the theft of copper wires from utility poles around town.

“*SIGNIFICANT ARREST** On 7/23/13 the Runnemede Police Department arrested and charged William D. Smith from the 300 block of Hill Avenue with 2nd degree Theft of copper grounding wire from (293) utility poles throughout Runnemede. PSE&G reported a replacement/loss of over $112,000.00. Thank you to all the residents that supplied tips and reports pertaining to this case!”

Recent Police Activity

March 22, 2012

There have been two home invasions and a break-in , this past week in Runnemede.  During a phone interview this morning, Captain Paul Dailey spoke about the recent events.

There was home invasion on Payne Avenue.  Captain Dailey stated that both the man and woman have been arrested.

A break-in had occurred on Pine Avenue.  Captain Dailey believes that this person was entering the wrong house and was possibly intoxicated.

And on Tuesday, another home invasion took place on West 2nd Avenue, in the afternoon.    According to Captain Dailey, the suspect has not been caught but the Runnemede police are getting close to capturing the suspect. The Runnemede schools were not contacted during this home invasion.

Dr. Nancy Ward was contacted today and released a statement via email.

“I just heard about the police action from a staff member this morning.  I am trying to get it confirmed,” said Ward.  Ward did leave a message for the chief of the police and is waiting for a response.

Captain Daily says Runnemede residents should not worry.  Residents should keep their doors locked and report any suspicious cars or person’s going from door to door.
