Controversy surrounds Mayor Bertha Kalvaitis after she designates Councilman Ed White as a fill-in for two Planning/Zoning Board meetings. Kalvaitis, who is no stranger to controversy, is quick with smart comebacks to residents that voice their concerns or opinions at borough meetings.
At the December 2011 and January 2012 Planning/Zoning Board meetings, Council President Tony Beatrice was absent. In two letters that has been obtained, it states that Kalvaitis designates Councilman Ed White to fill-in for Beatrice’s absences.
John Schmidt had attended last week’s meeting. Schmidt had quickly questioned why Councilman White was sitting on the Board.
According to the state statue, the mayor can appoint members to the board. Council President Beatrice is a Class III member and can only be appointed by the council.
Schmidt submitted a letter to the council about this situation. [Schmidt’s letter]
Kalvaitis was not able to be reached for comment.
Beatrice was contacted this evening regarding the situation with Kalvaitis. Beatrice was not able to answer any questions about this. He suggests that asking these questions at the next council meeting on February 7th.

It may seem that they do whatever they want. It doesn’t matter what position they may hold. And just because you may get an answer, doesn’t mean that it will be the right one.Maybe-Maybe Not.

I hope John takes this further.. We as towns people need a mayor and council who know just what they are doing..
I agree with eugene, they do seem to do what ever they want, even if it is unlawful…

Wow, I can’t believe this. From watching the videos on this blog has really opened my eyes to what our government does or for that matter does not do, but this is shocking. I looked at the letter sent and I want to know when is the mayor writing another letter, a letter of resignation. What she did is illegal and is a blatant disregard for the law. If I did something like this in my job, that is do something I had no right to do I would probably be suspended or fired.
What has the Borough said about this? Let me guess there answer is everything is fine and this won’t happen again.

Dave Mayer is there!
That’s right folks! The almighty and powerful Mayor Mayer seems to have quite the interest in good ole Runnemede. I wonder why? Someone should look at the political connections and players involved, interesting cast of characters!
